We are almost there....my husband is already back, his teachers start tomorrow, Reid goes back next Tuesday and I go back the following Monday and finally Elias goes back the Tuesday after Labor Day. Time for another Cas-ual Friday Challenge. The challenge was to use glue dots and glitter. Totally easy for the middle balloon but for the bigger two I used my circle punches and covered them with multiple glue dots and then let the glitter fly. My sister and brother-in-law's anniversary was yesterday. I made this card for them, although now that I look at it, it seems to be more of a wedding card than an anniversary. Decreasing Apertures, yup that is what the challenge over at PTI is. First glance I was transported back to my college photography classes but after watching the video I understood, :) The basic premise is to use different dies of different sizes in order to make a window. Let me add you also needed to use a little glitter on your window. The apple is stamped on the inside of my card and you can peek through the window to see it. Clear as mud? I promise I have a good reason why I haven't been crafting. The above photo shows the state of my craftroom about a week ago. I have always wanted a cozy bedroom and I finally got my wish. John and I painted the walls a warm blanket brown and had the carpet taken out and replaced with flooring. I bought beautiful new bedding and now my room is just perfect. Now that it is done I was able to get back into my craftroom.

I started off with this challenge from Cas-ual Fridays. The challenge was to make a 4 x9 card and embrace your clean and sample design. I have to say nine inches is a lot of space to stamp on, and it is easy to go overboard. :) Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

Is it hot enough for you? Wow, it is pretty nasty out there. Here is a quick card I made for the Cas-ual Friday's challenge. You had to use rub-ons or stickers on your creation. I kinda wish I had read that more closely because I only saw the rub-on part. I have a love/hate relationship with run-ons. There are so many cute ones out there, but I am never able to attach them without some breakage. This card uses Echo Park paper and Making Memories rub-ons. I think I may have to break this one down for you, lots going on. LOL I started with a Basic Black base and layered it with some Cosmo Cricket paper. I stamped the MY with black ink. I then decorated a chipboard frame with some old refrigerator magnets. I cut a bit of another sheet of Cosmo Cricket paper and put it into the frame. I tied some bakers twine through the tag and stepped back and saw this very busy but kinda fun card. Not exactly my usual style but I like it. Onto some dinner news, I made a Mexican cheese, tortilla dish that received 3 out of 4 stars from my picky family. Not bad but not sure I will repeat it. Tonight is a bit of a challenge for me. I don't eat red meat, I don't cook red meat. I will be making a dish that uses sirloin and lots of veges. A little nervous about cooking it (and touching it and eating it) but I figure if I am forcing the boys to try new things I should to. The verdict is still out on this one, I'll let you know. Happy Monday! Success on dinner last night. After a little convincing to my 7 year old that fish would not kill him, he tried the tilapia and kinda liked it. Thought I would pop back in with my take on Cas-ual Friday's challenge. You had to use something sweet in your creation. I dug deep in my drawers and found some Halloween rub-ons and some vintagy cards that worked perfectly together. The sentiment is from Papertrey and the paper is Echo Park. Loved how this one came together. In my last post I mentioned signing up for emeelz, I took my printed out shopping list to the store and am all set for the week. It is time for another CAS-ual Friday challenge. This week you need to create a project using a decorative edge. I love the look of a larger scallop border so I used my circle die to create this one. We kinda missed Father's Day last weekend because we were traveling back from the Bat Mitzvah so we are celebrating it today. The boys are excited because we are going to the Melting Pot tonight fo dessert. Yummy! I had a blast at the scrapbook convention yesterday. I bought lots of Echo Park paper and a Sew Easy handle and some cartridges. I saw an article about it in Paper Crafts Magazine and couldn't wait to get one. Anyone ever use one? I think the concensus is to do them in order unless the middle one is bigger than the other two and then you would do the last initial in the middle. Yeah Wednesday! I don't know about you but I need the weekend, oh wait my weekend is crazy too. :) The challenge over at Papertrey Playhouse is to rediscover some of your first PTI stamps. Find them, dust them off and get them inky! My very first PTI step was Ambassador: Monogram Edition. I bought about three years ago, I had decided to make monogram stationary for the holidays that year. I fell in love with the elegance of this set. I have not used it since then but I still love the look. I made this card for my neice whose Bat Mitzvah is next weekend. Her colors are pink and green. Here is the big question for you all, when you do monograms do you do first initial, last initial and then middle or do you do first, middle and then last. Are you sick of fruit yet? I was checking out some blogs when I came across The Paper Variety and low and behold their challenge this week is to create something with fruit in it. This challenge was made for me. This card was a lot of different things before it became this, or should I say the medium used was different. I tried gluing itty, bitty, tiny, minuscule beads to the watermelon (yes, it is a watermelon) These said beads had a small accident and now live forever all over my craft room. I finally decided I would go with something safe like buttons. All was fine, I was digging the outcome until my beloved husband asked why I had a pink and green smiley face. REALLY? I am in love. Yup I have said it and it is out there for the world to hear(see). I am not in love with a who but a what....Papertrey Ink new Fruit Fusion stamp sets and dies. For $8.00 you can buy the cutest stamp set (apples, strawberries, pears, grapes and melons are your choices) and then you can get the matching die. Love I tell you! Over the weekend I got my Papertrey goodies (Fruit Fusion: berry and apple, both dies, and the Fruitti Tutti designer paper) When I saw the Make It Monday challenge which was cracked glass I knew I wanted to play. Have you ever tried this technique? I had done it years ago but definitely needed a refresher, my only caution is the image gets HOT so be careful. I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday. My husband took the boys to visit his parents so I am all alone. I spent a good part of the day cleaning my scrap room. Wow, I have a lot of stuff. We are actually having a yard sale next weekend and I have over 100 Stampin' Up stamp sets to sell. I did take a break to participate in another CAS-ual Friday challenge. This week you need to create a graduation card. I went through all of my Papertrey stamps and took out all of the congratulations type stamps, I then put them all on my clear block and stamped the background. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do for this month's Papertrey's Blog Hop. I like flowers but I find them to be a challenge to stamp. My biggest issue is to not have them floating on the card but to ground them somehow. I do like how this turned out. I also dug out the colored pencils to color the flower in. I need your crafty help today. My niece's Bat Mitzvah is in June and I am making the centerpieces for the tables. Each table will have a clip that has pictures of Emily at different ages of her life. It is a large clothes pin, painted white and decorated on both sides. I then used wire and attached photos and the table number to it. I put clay at the bottom of the clip. Happy Tuesday Evening! I have a confession to make. I have a love hate relationship with clear stamps. I love the way the images look and Papertrey is truly one of my favorite companies BUT the dislike part comes from me being a slob. Yup, you heard right, I am a messy crafter which means on a daily basis I am crawling on my hands and knees looking for the clear stamp I just dropped. I must come up with a better system ( I know what your thinking...just clean up your mess and you wouldn't have this problem) Well yes that could work but since it probably won't happen I have to think of an alternative. Any thoughts? While your thinking I will discuss my cards. I was asked to make a bunch of Bat Mitzvah cards for my temple, Bat Mitzvahs are for girls which is why I used the girly colors. Project Life Week 14

Another week at the White House. I have to say my classes are done and I am certified for another six years. (or is that certifiable?) Anyway, that is over and now we can get on with life. We have a new laptop and I am still getting use to the photo program we had installed. As you can see I can't figure out how to change the text box to white and I know I have two Thursdays but I am too frustrated to go back and change it. :) I will figure it out. Homework time at the White House. We have a love-hate relationship with homework. On one hand I feel bad for Reid, having two educators in the house can't be easy. The other side says deal with it and get your work done. Okay, that is only a small piece of me saying that. :)

Rainy day in Annapolis. My friend Julie and I took the boys to the Annapolis Children's Museum. Here Luca is giving Elias a check at the doctor's office.

Dinner out with Jill. She wanted to take me out for my birthday. We had a great time catching up and eating yummy food.

My goofy guy! I don't even know what he is doing, but he sure is cute.

Elias decided it was time to learn how to tie his shoes. Kind of a hard skill for a three year old. He practiced for a while and then decided he was good with his velcro sneakers for a little bit longer.

We surprised attacked John while he was trying to take a nap.

I love watching Reid read! He is getting so good at it. It took awhile for it to click but once it did, watch out.

My very cool dude. That face is something. I have to say we are having some issues with this little guy. He has decided to scream every time I leave the room. I know it is just a phase but it better be a quick one.
We got a new laptop! Our computer has been on its last leg for awhile now. We saved some of our tax refund and bought this baby! Love It!
I know it is all about the shoes. Are these not the cutest things? I wore them to work one day and a sixth grader stopped me in the hall to tell me how cute they are. If you know middle schoolers this is high praise.
Friday night at the Chinese Buffet. Really not John's and my favorite place but the kids love it. This shot is so typical of the two them. John's cheesy smile paired with Reid's new rapper look. Again, I hope it is a quick phase.
Another cheesy picture! This one is taken by me holding the camera in front of our faces. They never come out great but I kinda like this one. Our faces do look huge, though.

My favorite photo of the week. Since Elias has been having some issues lately we have started a behavior chart with him. He has really bought into it. (for the most part) His favorite thing is to stand on his desk and put his "checkers" on.

Purim is a Jewish holiday where the children dress up and our temple has a carnival. Very fun but very exhausting. Project Life Week Ten

Welcome to another week of Project Life. One thing I love about this project is how it makes me focus on the little stuff, you know the day to day stuff. Like food shopping and going out to eat. I do have to say that doing this made me realize how much we eat out and that is going to stop. :) Enjoy checking out my week and be sure to hop on over to Jessica's blog to find other PL albums.
We usually do our food shopping on Sunday but because we were away all weekend Elias and I got to do the honors on Monday morning. The problem with food shopping is that it forces me to figure out what we will be eating for the whole week. Not an easy task.
Cute, right? I was suppose to buy some new clothes for my birthday, John is tired of me saying I don't have anything to wear. I tried but instead three pairs of super cute shoes called out to me. I love the ribbon on this pair.
Spring is on the way, at least I hope it is. The cold weather did not stop my little guy from going out and blowing bubbles.
How many of you do a book club. I have tried before but it never quite worked out. I am trying it again. We read an amazing book, The Invisible Bridge, I highly recommend it. It was a truly fun night, good book, good food and good friends.
We tried a new restaurant. It wasn't bad, good wings and very loud which is good for the boys.
My absolute favorite photo of the week. When we moved into our house (ten years ago) I thought this corner would be perfect for a little desk. It took awhile but I did it and I got to display a lot of my vintage cameras. LOVE THIS!
Sunday in the park with the Whites. Elias was trying out Reid's bike. Our original thought was to buy Elias a new bike but Reid's is a perfect fit for Elias so we will be getting Reid a new bike. Sometimes I feel bad for the younger child because they seem to get all the hand me downs. I am sure Elias will be thrilled with his new to him bike. :)

I know right? Two days in a row. I am telling ya, I am trying. Today is my older sister's birthday, you got the older part, right? I thought I would use this week's Make It Monday challenge over at Papertrey Inc. The challenge was to distress a bit, not stress but distress. :) I used my Banner Builder set to make the background, after I sanded the cardstock my Fresh Snow ink came in handy when I wanted to distress the edges of the Kraft paper. What do you think of that ribbon? This past weekend while we were away we combed some antique shops and I found a whole bunch of cool ribbon, just like the one above but in a bunch of different colors, love that! Project Life Week Nine

Hi Friends! Welcome to Week Nine of Project Life. How fun is that? I can't seem to catch up with my other crafty stuff, but at least I am getting this done. :) Friday was the big day for me, yup I went ahead and turned 40. I guess it was inevitable. So far not so bad.
Who would have thought that toothbrushes would excite the boys so much! They must have brushed their teeth 4 times this day.
Tuesday, you know that day that we have nothing planned. Julie called and off we went to Bounce Zone. I love Julie, I mean I love bouncing. :)
Happy Birthday Dr. Seus. On the way home from school Elias asked me why we celebrated Dr. Seus's birthday when he wasn't alive anymore. HMMM...good question, kid. I'll get back to ya on that.
Birthday dinner at Eden. The most amazing food and dessert to die for. We had a wonderful leisurely meal with wine, appetizers, dinner, dessert and even coffee. You can't get any better than that.
Top Dog celebration at Reid's school. The kids were challenged to see how many books they could read in a month. Reid's goal was 100 books but he actually read 150!
Chocolate Festival in Rehoboth! They knew I was coming and that it was my birthday! A perfect day all around.

Project Life Week Eight

Welcome to Week Eight of Project Life. Life at the White House has definitely been crazy. I finally finished my class. Everything was put on the back burner while I was taking it. Now I can get back to crafting. I am on the countdown until Friday, only 4 more days in my thirties. :) Be sure to check out Jessica's blog for other PL albums.

Hella's - the best place to find a crab cake in MD, well maybe not the best but it does come close. They also have a crab dip that is pretty amazing.
Snow day! Here is the gang hanging out after a snowball fight. I got some good shots of them throwing snowballs at the adults.
Spy Kids 3 in 3D. Okay, I am going to admit something, you know how with the first born you swore they wouldn't watch tv until they were 5 and then only PBS and they would never drink juice. Yeah, I remember those days. Elias got the shaft (he probably doesn't think so)
Elais loves his Dad's Ipad. I am so glad John got one for work.(insert sarcasm)
Last of the wood for the year. So glad we bought a cord. Elias loves helping his Dad.
We were caught in the middle of getting Elias's belly.
My cutie boys playing Lego's. We had this day all planned out. Sunday School, food shopping, Mommy writes a paper. But no, nail in the tire wreaks havoc every time. The boys got to go with John to Sears to get a new tire, they even got lunch and a trip to the Lego store. Mommy stayed home and wrote her paper.

Hi Friends, are you ready for another week of Project Life? I realize that I have not posted much crafty things lately, to be honest the class I am taking is kicking my behind! I am in my last week, so hopefully things will get better. That is until the next one starts on March 8th. Please check out Jessica Turner's blog to see some amazing Project Life albums.
Valentine's Day. John was away so the boys celebrated by ourselves. I made them large clips and in this picture are the crafts they made me.
John sent me these beautiful lilies for Valentine's Day. What I like is that they didn't all bloom at the same time, so each day they looked different.
Play date with Luca. These two are super cute together. At one point they went upstairs and I found them in Elias's bed looking at books together. Of course the camera was downstairs.
I will get on my soap box for a moment. You all know that I am turning 40 very soon. This has made me reflect about things in my life. One of them are my friends. I don't have a lot, but the ones I do have are really good friends. I decided that I have to make more of an effort to see them. On this night Sarah and I met for dinner at PF Changs. I have a few more amazing woman I need to convince to go out to catch up with me. (yes, Rhonda and Kim, I am talking about you)
Such a beautiful day outside. The boys were able to play without coats on (I know, that is how they get sick, I pick my battles) They had a blast playing with their cars and chalk.
Now that we have three hermit crabs (refer to week five's molting incident) They needed a bigger home. So John and Reid put this together and they now live in Reid's room.
Yup, we do McDonald's. Certainly not my favorite, but every once it a while it is the place of choice (that is what I get for having children with their own opinions)

Make It Mondays

Project Life Week Six

I am late today getting up my PL post. But no worries, I am on week six and still going strong.I figured out a new way to do my four wallets, Thanks to Banu, she sent me to a site where you can make the collage and then save it to print later. Genius!

On Monday night we ordered Chinese Food. Elias is too funny with his fortune. He looks down like he is reading then looks up with a straight face and says "Daddy kissed his girlfriend with lipstick" No lie, I almost peed my pants.

It was the 100th day of school! Reid was so excited to "play" all day.
We have read Harry Potter 1,2, and 3 outloud to Reid. We are now on the fourth one. He loves them. After we read them we watch the movie. I don't think we will be watching any more of them, they get a bit dark and scary.

Report card day. I have to say it must be kinda hard having both parents be educators. Reid had an amazing report card, so proud of that boy.
John left on Saturday to go to West Virginia for a funeral. He actually will be back tonight. We made puzzles, played games, watched movies and at McDonalds's.
Elias wanted to put on a puppet show. So he turned over the table and started with his finger puppets. It was pretty cute.

Project Life Week Five

Another week in Project Life. I have to say that this week wasn't one of stellar photos. I am okay with that, they still capture our life. When your done here, be sure to head over to Jessica's blog to see more PL albums.
Reid has been wanting to walk home from the bus stop by himself for a while. We were kinda hesitant about it. It is a double edged sword, you want him to be independent and confident but at the same time safe. This was the first day we let him do it, and yes I was at the front door waiting.
Another Tuesday, which means game day for Elias and me. I think we played every game in the cupboard. He is fascinated with Yahtzee, he begs to play when Reid plays with one of us. You probably know it is not the easiest game to play, especially for a three year old. These are Elias's rules, you roll the die, you keep rolling until you are done, then you write down your score. Pretty cute, I must say.
That is my guy fast asleep on the chair. That's what happens when you wake up at 5:00 in the morning.
Pop-Pop loves to give the boys money before he leaves. You would think he was giving out candy, the way my boys attack him.
Friday is Shabbat. It is when we have a special family dinner (I think we had chicken nuggets on this night shhh don't tell anyone) we say the prayers, bless our children, sing some songs, eat challah and all in all just have a lovely dinner. It is even better in the morning when John makes challah french toast.

On Friday morning we had two hermit crabs, Tom and Jerry. Friday night John tells me that Tom is dead and Jerry has spread his body parts all over the cage. On Saturday we tell the kids and then head off to the pet store because John read that you should always have more than one hermit crab or they get lonely or something. Anyway, Reid picks out Patrick (he is the white one) We get home and John is cleaning out the cage and low and behold we see movement in Tom's shell. It turns out that hermit crabs molt and then hide in their shell. Who knew?Super Bowl Sunday! The Patriots weren't playing but we watch anyway. Pretty happy the Packers won.

A Papertrey Valentine

Super quick post tonight. It has been a crazy day at the White house. I have 3 papers due tomorrow and I have been working all day to get them done. Today for Papertrey's fourth anniversary they had a super cool challenge. You were able to down load 9 tags from different designers and then you had to create something with it. It is PTI's fourth anniversary! I have to say hands down it is my favorite company. I love so many of their products and my favorite time of the month is the countdown before the release. Project Life Week 4

Week four in Project Life and I am still going strong. I have added a few extra pages to add photos and I also added one page protector to each month so I can put extra stuff from the month. It feels a bit like the portfolio I had to make when I taught with the artifacts you had to have to document your teaching. This is the right side of the album, I added a sleeve with 6 4x6 slots for photos This is the left side with another 6 added pictures

Elias loves his teacher Miss Susan. John had a furlough day so he was able to come with me to pick him up. Elias flew out the door into his arms
Reid got a magic science kit for his birthday ....in October. He has been begging to do some of the experiments but of course John and I had a million excuses not to do it. Finally we relented and I have to say it was pretty cool. And not that messy.
The boys were BORED. So not a fan of that word. They finally made a fort under the train table. I would like to say that it was arguement free but I would be lying. They both retreated to different corners of the fort and played their video games.
Snow day! This is the first time in a long time that the snow was heavy enough to build a snowman and to have a snowball fight.
Your so vain, betcha think this song is about you......Yup I am being a bit vain. I Have always wanted to have my teeth whitened so for my birthday John set it up with the dentist to get it done.
Elias and I went to the parent/child dance at his school. We had to convince Elias to wear "fancy" clothes. He had a great time dancing and playing with his friends.
Reid was absent the day his Sunday School class made a Shabbat box. He decided to make his own. He found a shoebox, decorated it and filled it with all things Shabbat. He is really looking forward to Friday night so we can use it.

Happy Monday! We had a very busy weekend. On Saturday, Elias and I went to a parent/child dance at his school. It was very cute! I will have pictures in my PL album tomorrow. Stay tuned. Happy Friday! Everyone had a two hour delay today but at least we are back to school. :) In between writing a paper on the importance of recess I took a break to make this card. Another Snow Day

I know some of you are getting more slammed with snow than we are, but my kids have not been to school since Monday...it is time to go back. :) Don't get me wrong I love to spend time with everyone but no one does well when our schedule is this interrupted. I thought I would throw this out there, I am turning 40 in March and I thought it would be cool to at least get to 40 followers or more, what you think? What a fun challenge. I am guilty of having a few stamps that have never seen ink. The Background Basics: Woodgrain is (now was) one of them. I love it when I see the cool cards people make with it but I couldn't quite figure it out. Until I forced the issue. Project Life Week Three

Another week has past and can I tell you how happy I am doing this project. I know that some days I have to think what is the POTD, other times it is so apparent. I have taken to bringing my camera with me everywhere. I wanted to show the book itself just because I love to see how other people set their albums up. I have found for some of the days I have multiple pictures that tell a story. so I print those out as wallet size and put four pictures in a slot. I have seen lots of albums where they add another page protector and sew it to size, I am not that talented. For now this works for me. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

Reid got his cast off! I have to say when she took out the electric tool I got a little nervous.
We had a snow day so the whole family played Zingo. This is Elias's favorite game, he loves to be the Zingo person. In this photo he isn't the Zingo person, hence the face. The problem with this game (at least when my husband plays) the winner gets to get everyone's belly. I never win.

Today was the first day Reid got to take the bus home. Yay, no more having to get to school an hour early to get a parking space. No more having to entertain Elias for that hour, cooped up in a mini-van. Love the bus. John's parents come every Thursday so I can work. Reid doesn't get to spend a whole lot of time with them since he is at school. Pop-Pop rules in my both my boys' world.
That face, need I say more.
My certification for teaching needs to be renewed by June. I am taking two classes on-line through the University of Phoenix. I have decided to go back to work next year teaching a pre-k class. This is a big stretch for me since I have always taught fifth grade.
It is never quiete at the White House.

Project Life - Week 2

I know it has been awhile but I am back and ready to go. :) I am so excited to be doing Becky Higgin's Project Life. If you are not familiar with this you have to check out her blog. I am doing a picture a day and have decided to follow Jessica Turner's Project Life Tuesday. Each week I will post my pictures for the week. I love this photo. Reid had just gotten a book out of the library and wanted to read it to me and Elias.

Tuesday is the one day of the week that Elias and I don't have anything scheduled, so we play. All day. The words I hear the most on Tuesday: "Mommy, play with me"
I was waiting by the door for the UPS guy to deliver my actual kit. I practically threw my camera at my seven year old to get this photo. It took a while to get one that worked.
Reid is always asking me to craft with him. This mean allowing him access to my scrap room and my stuff. Not an easy task for me. :) I have to say once we are working I love to hang with him and watch him create.
Reid came home from school with a briefcase he had made in writing center. He wanted to teach us how to make one. So cute! Mine will hold cards, Elias put scrap paper in his and Reid put secret agent stuff in his.
Have I told you how much I love my guys? This includes the big guy, John. He spent so much time with Elias going over these pages. They would read together and then color.
Yup, we are Patriot fans. I was born and raised in New England. We now live in MD where it is Raven's country. Not at the White House....we (meaning Elias and I are Patriot fans, at least until he is old enough to choose his own team) John is a Redskin's fan and Reid has decided (I am positive it is just to make me crazy) to be a Raven's fan.

Winter White

How pretty is that wedding cake? That is the inspiration over at Moxie Fab World. This is my first time doing one of Cath's Tuesday Triggers but as soon as I saw the picture I knew I had to give it a try. There is something about this picture that screams elegance but simple. I loved the little hint of pink in the picture and tried to play on that as well. I used some fun embellishment from Making Memories on this card. Stamp Something Glittery

The challenge over at Stamp Something is to create a project that glitters. The problem is you can't exactly tell what glitters in my project. I promise the paper does, in the pink flowers and on the brad it is very shimmery and glittery. (like my new made up words?)While I was rummaging around in my MIL craft closet last week I found a giant plain clothes pin. I know I have seen others decorated around Blogland so I decided to give it a try. What you can't really see are that the sides are covered with pink tape, lots of pink tape. :) I really like this project and think I will be making some more as presents for Valentine's Day. Happy New Year! I am excited for 2011, lots of exciting and a little scary things going to happen. Stay tuned as the year progresses to find out what they are. :) One of my goals is to get organized and simplify my "stuff" While I was cleaning I came across a Starbucks gift card tin. Well, my cleaning was forgotten and I got to work. I decorated the tin and made 4 3x3 cards to stick inside. Do you remember rebus puzzles? Where you use pictures instead of words? I found this super cute SU set from 1996 (that is what happens when you go rummaging around in your MIL craft stuff) These cards make me smile. Just popping in for a quick post. After I finished my card for the Papertrey hop yesterday I still had my Banner set out and decided to play. I just made a repeating background with one of the banner stamps. I then used my die from fillable frames #4 to cut the frame out of vellum, and then stamped over it to add the black frame and finally the sentiment from Signature Greetings.

Holiday Leftovers

It's that time again for our annual holiday leftovers challenge! Use scraps of wrapping paper, parts of holiday cards, recycle gift tags or bits of ribbon on a paper crafting project. We all have plenty of it laying around after all the holiday excitement and this is your chance to incorporate some of those pretty little things into an amazing piece of art!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I was happy to have a chance to work on this challenge. My husband is an assistant principal in an elementary school. During the holidays he gets lots of gift cards. Have you ever noticed how pretty gift card envelopes are? When I give gift cards (probably you as well) I make my own, but I couldn't ignore these all ready made holders. I used my Banner Builder set and my dies to make this card. The sentiment is from Signature Greetings. The banners are made out of Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Cheese Cake Factory, Menchies and Chipotle gift card holders. Baby, it's cold outside. We had our first snow today and let me tell you Marylanders don't do well in the snow. Not to mention we live in a neighborhood that is full of hills. The good old mini van doesn't do icy hills. Makes for an interesting ride. I had to go to Reid's school and wrap his foot in plastic so it wouldn't get wet. Always an adventure at the White house. I wanted to ink up my new Papertrey set, Framed. I thought I would stamp the frame in silver and then stamp the flowers in white. I then broke out my chalks and used them for the inside of the flowers. I topped it off with a velvet white ribbon. I am kinda digging it. The worst thing about the winter is that I have to take all my photos inside and the lighting isn't good at all. Sorry about that. :) Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

I am totally loving the Papertrey stamp set Chair-ished. The sentiments are right up my alley. This card is actually our holiday card (shhh, don't tell anyone) We send cards to lots of people who celebrate Hanukkah and a bunch to those that celebrate Christmas so I never want to lean to heavily on just Hanukkah cards. This card is not specific to what holiday but is still festive. I will include a photo, however, it is proving hard to get one where we all look good. I will give it one more try tomorrow and then if it doesn't work I am just going to send one of those photos that comes with a picture frame. I don't think anyone would notice, do you? Winter Wonderland

Today both the card team and the scrapbook team from The Pink Elephant are doing a group challenge. We were to create something with a winter theme. I made this note holder, bookmark and gift card holder for my son's teacher. They will all go into the bag when it is time to bring it to school. Three days in a row. WOOHOO! Who is this girl blogging and what have you done with Sarah? I am smokin! Okay, I am done. Cute wine tags, don't you think? I had a woman approach me at Temple one day and ask if I could make her some wine tags. Sure, why not. Of course in my head I was thinking, wine tags ahhh whatcha talking about? Once I thought about it I decided to use cork paper and run it through the Big Shot, I did layer it with cardstock first so it wouldn't be so flimsy. Since we live in Annapolis I decided to use a bit of a nautical theme. (you caught that, right?) Glitter is Glam

The challenge over at Moxie Fab World is to be innovative with glitter. I thought I would give it a try. I had this cute mitten cut out and I used glitter for the cuff and for the snowflakes. I would wear them. :) We certainly had a interesting night at the White House last night. We have managed to stay out of the ER for seven years. Mind you we have had some close calls, and I still make sure I know the way to the hospital whenever we go out. But yesterday it happened. Reid was playing with his football outside and tripped over something. Me being the wonderful mother (read with sarcasm) that I am just thought it was twisted and made him sit for a bit. My husband comes home and notices how swollen it was so off we went to the Doctors who promptly sent us to the ER for x-rays. He thinks it is a fracture but they can't tell for sure until all of the swelling goes down. Fun, fun, fun. I don't know about you but when my kids are sick and I know a sprained ankle is not life threatening it still leaves me with a stomach ache. So for today we have lots of movies planned. Hi Friends. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was busy but very fun. I wanted to share with you some more of my items for the Hanukkah Bazaar. For the first one I dug out my Xxron machine and made some stickers. You could totally do this for any holiday, I made six stickers added a pack of crayons and poof what a cute gift for a child. The second thing is something that has been around forever and that is a post-it-note holder. I thought they would be super cute for the teachers at my son's school. My son and my nephew Nate our trouble with a capital T. :) These pictures were taking this summer at the beach. There is always a lot of focus on Christmas in our industry this time of year, as that is what the majority of the population celebrates. However, this month's blog hop is dedicated to those that celebrate winter holidays other than Christmas. Create a project that celebrates Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or some other winter holiday as we embrace everyone's beliefs in a celebration of diversity through paper crafting.

Love this challenge. As some of youmay know I am Jewish and sometimes it is hard during the holidays to feel apart of the crafting world where a huge emphasis is placed on Christmas. I love that Nichole is embracing other holidays, it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. My son is the only Jewish child in his class. I know that I will be getting that phone call from his teacher asking me to come in and explain Hanukkah to the class. I thought it would be fun to give each child their own driedel box. It includes directions, gelt and a driedel. I used lots of Papertrey goodies including the Mazel Tov and Mazel Tov additions set. I also used Everyday Blessing Patterned Paper. A pretty ooops

I am not going to lie, this card started out as something entirely different and it morphed into this. Hmmm. Don't get me wrong, I like it, it just isn't what it was suppose to be. Last weekend my husband and I went away with two wonderful old friends that we don't get to see that often. They have a house at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. I have never been there so it was a pleasant surprise. So pretty, and fally and lots of cool shops. We took a hike around a waterfall. Did I mention this weekend was without kids. Enough said. Hanukkah Dilemma

Every Hanukkah I have the following problem. I want to wrap all of my gifts at one time but then I forget which gift I want to give on what night. For those of you who are not familiar with Hanukkah we celebrate for 8 nights and on each night we light the menorah. I made these tags using a new set from Lawn Fawn. I colored a the number of candles to represent each night of Hanukkah (for example two candles means the second night, six candle would be the sixth night) That way I would know which night to give which gift. Am I making any sense? Love this new set, it is sometimes hard to find Jewish stamps so I was super excited to fine this one. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

Hey Friends! Just popping in to show you the notecards I made for a teacher at my son's school. The PTO celebrates each teacher on their birthday so I have been making notecards for each one. I borrowed a sketch from Dawn McVey and used my Signature Greetings set from Papertrey and a stamp from SU's Baroque Motifs. Hi Friends, Today is the day for our Pink Elephant Scrap Challenge. It is a tricky one ;). You need to use the color aqua, designer paper and your favorite embellishment. I knew I had to scrap my pictures of Super Elias and they fit perfectly with the color aqua. As far as designer paper goes I might have cheated but I used the back and front of one piece, you gotta love double sided paper. My embellishment was chipboard, oh and stickers too. Okay I did it, I broke down and made the wreath with actual candy corn. It only took 3 hours, 4 bags of candy corn and 6 glue sticks for the glue gun. And by the way when you get hot glue dripped on you it hurts. Now that it is done, I really do like it. I am wondering if I could spray it with something to keep it each year. Any thoughts. Papertrey September Blog Hop Challenge

This is the first time I have done the Papertrey Blog Hop Challenge. Now don't get me wrong I check them out each month but have never been brave enough to join. This month I decided to give it a go. The challenge was to show off your skills that you have learned from fellow stampers out there in blogland. My card actually has two techniques that I learned. The first is the Crimped Diamond Background, basically you use your paper crimper to create a diamond shaped background. I found this tutorial on Beate's blog ,Fresh & Fun. The second technique was one I saw on Nichole Heady's blog last year when she introduced Boo To You. She used Copic markers on her pumpkin and then used her blender pen to take away some of the color. I tried to do that here and make polka dots on my pumpkin. You can see her demonstration here.
There is one more thing I did learn but I don't know who to thank for this tip. My gems were originally white so I used my Copic marker to color them orange.The second photo although the pumpkin is not as clear shows the diamond background a little better. Enjoy and thanks so much for stopping by.

I love this wreath on the cover of Woman's Day. I kept seeing it in the grocery store and today I broke down and bought it. I would love to make this wreath but I would eat all the candy corn.
